Zener Cards
Remember that part in Ghost Busters where Bill Murry picks up a girl using ESP cards? Bill is testing two peoples super natural skills, a goofy looking guy with curly hair and a hot blond girl. He’s doing the test by holding up cards with different symbols on them. Only he can see the cards and the two are trying to guess what symbol he is holding. He keeps zapping the guy as a form of negative reinforcement even when he guesses the symbol right. Eventually, after he has been shocked and his gum flys out of his mouth, he tells Bill to screw off and storms out of the room. On the other hand, the girl gets all her guesses wrong but Bill tells her she is special and they should meet after the session to discuss her “gift”.
I don’t believe anyone has ESP or can read minds or tell the future. I just thought this app would be fun to test your friends that say they have some type of “gift”. Some interesting things to note are: the deck is only shuffled once, there are twenty five cards, five of each symbol. This means the odds are 1/5 on your first guess after that the odds change. So, if you can count cards you could potentially get better then 20% of your “guesses.”

Three Man released to Android Market
My favorite drinking game from college is now available for the G1. You can download it from the android Market place. Screen prints
Rules:
3 Man is a dice game that involves two dice and a lot of your favorite beverage. It is best played with 3 or more people. Every combination of dice rolled corresponds to a task the players must perform. One player keeps rolling until they are told to pass then they pass the game to the left. The players take turns rolling the dice and performing the tasks that the dice have chosen.
To start all players toast,“All hail the 3 Man. The 3 Man is the Champion!”
3 Man: The first person to roll a 3 on either dice or the combined total of both dice is the first 3 Man and stays the 3 Man until a new 3 Man is selected. Only one player is 3 Man at a time.
Roll the dice by tapping or shaking the device.
Game play goes to the left.
Each roll corresponds to an action. Follow the action that is displayed under the dice. For example, rolling a 9 is a social. All players toast and drink one.
3 Man the hard way: A two and a one on the dice.
Double Bonus: If the double bonus reaches 3 the roller gets to make up a rule. A rule can be a new toast, an action that must be taken before each drink, or making something taboo such as cursing, pointing or using names. When a player breaks a rule they have to drink.
3 Man Bonus: The bonus grows the longer the 3 Man has not changed. If it reaches nine the roller gets to pick a new 3 man.
Thats it. Press the back button to start the game. Press the menu button at any time to access this help screen or to toggle the sound. Have fun and drink responsibly!
This was a fun little project and I’ve really enjoyed delving into Java while playing around with the Android SDK. I have not been able to find any sober testers. So please report any bugs.
I have some projects in the works. So keep checking back.
